Q: How long does the dance season run?
A: Our classes run similar to a school year, beginning the second week of September and running until the second or third week of June. We finish out the year with our professionally staged annual recital in which all students have the opportunity to be a 'true performer' and showcase what they have learned during the year.
Q: How old does my child need to be to start dance?
A: Our youngest dance program begins at age 3 with our Tiny Ballerina introduction to ballet class. We also offer our Terrific Trio class for ages 4-6 that will begin their adventure by exploring 3 different genres of dance. We offer classes for ages 3 all the way up to adult!
Q: What dance styles does Dance Collective offer?
A: Dance Collective offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, pointe, musical theatre, hip hop and stretch and strengthen.
Q: Do classes run during holidays?
Q: What does my child need to wear to their dance class?
Q: How do I register?
A: You can register for any of our programs at the studio or through email. Our registration runs from June-February 1st as long as there is space available in the selected class. Please register early to avoid disappointment!
Q: Am I able to watch my child's class?
A: To ensure that your child gets the most out of their class and in order to eliminate class distractions as well as to implement proper safety measures, we do not allow parents or guardians to view classes in progress. We do have a 'Bring a Parent to Dance,' throughout the year where parents are invited to take their child's dance class with them and experience the fun! As well, we may invite parents/guardians to come in and watch a 'mini showcase' of what the dancers have been learning.
Q: Withdrawal Policies
A: At Dance Collective we are confident that your child will love their dance class! However, we also understand that picking a style of dance can be a difficult task when you are new to dance. It is our policy to switch a student’s class at no additional charge. If for some reason you are not wishing to continue your lessons with DC you are eligible for a refund (minus classes attended and a 10% administrative fee), as long as we receive notice before October 31st. Refunds are not processed after October 31st.
Q: Are there any other expenses that I should be aware of?
A: Along with your registration fees is a costume deposit which goes towards the making of a costume for our annual recital. Each dancer will receive a custom made costume that is ready to wear for our Picture Day and Recital! The balance on this costume will be required when you pick it up from the studio (usually in the spring). Families should budget between $30-$80 per recreational costume. All costumes are yours to keep! We also have an annual Picture Day where dancers come together in their costume to take a headshot and snap a memory with their friends. Picture Day has no cost to attend, but picture packages will be available for you to purchase from our photographer. Finally our year-end recital is held in a professional theatre (Oshawa Little Theatre), and is a ticketed event. Tickets are available through the Oshawa Little Theatre box office about a month prior to show time and are between $20-$25.
