Dance Styles

Tiny Ballerinas
Your child's first introduction to dance with an emphasis on ballet.

This 45 minute class offered to children ages 3 to 4. The class focus is on co-ordination, musicality and specific rhythm and movements such as skipping and clapping to the timing of the music! This class runs from September until June and ends with your child learning and performing a ballet routine in our year end recital! An excellent introduction to dance!

Terrific Trio!
Exploring technique and movement in all three styles of ballet, tap and jazz.

Dance Collective is pleased to offer this 3 style class for our young ones! Running for an hour and 15 min, this class is offered to 4 to 6 year olds, and is an introduction and exploration of movement in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz! This class teaches the foundations of all 3 styles and focuses on co-ordination, musicality, flexibility, technique, rhythm and movement. This class runs from September until June and ends with your child learning and performing 3 routines, 1 per style, in our year end recital!

Ballet
A classical and technical form of dance, the basis of all other styles

Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. It helps to build a strong base, clean technique as well as proper balance. Our ballet classes integrate elements of barre exercises, centre work and dance combinations. At Dance Collective, the B.A.T.D. syllabus is taught. This class is mandatory for all competitive dancers and is highly recommended for beginner dancers and recreational dancers. Though the most demanding and disciplined of all dance forms, ballet is the most rewarding. All dancers participating in our year run ballet classes, will also be taught a routine that will be performed in Dance Collective's Annual Ballet Production at our year end recital.

Tap
Energizing, learning to make music with your feet

Who wouldn't love making music with their feet? From the beginner levels to the advanced, this class is an exciting class to try! This class focuses on building the foundations of sound and rhythm, timing and co-ordination, and beats and tempos. B.A.T.D. Barre exercises and centre work, across the floor progressions and creating rhythms, will be included in each 45 min class. All dancers participating in our year run tap classes, will also be taught a routine that will be performed at our year end recital. 

Jazz
Upbeat and fun, getting exposed to classical and modern jazz elements.

Jazz is a high energy class that gets your body moving to current music! Classes are 45 minutes and consist of a centre stretch warm up, technique across the room, and a centre combination finishing off with a cool down. It focuses on technique, flexibility, musicality and style. All dancers participating in our year run jazz classes, will also be taught a routine that will be performed at our year end recital. 

Pointe
Advanced development of classical ballet, with the use of pointe shoes.

Pointe is offered to advanced students who are currently taking Ballet. This 1 hour class consists of ballet barre exercises, across the floor progressions, centre work and pointe combinations. These class elements will be executed both on the ball of the foot as well as up en pointe. Please note that this class must only be taken by the recommendation of one of our trained teachers. This class is a part of our yearly recreational program and will end with a routine that will be taught and performed at our year end recital. 

Contemporary
Exploring creativity and improvisational skills, combining different dance genres to create a unique style.

Contemporary is an expressive dance style that is based off of the body's natural movements. This class 45 minute class will allow students to explore their own individual expression and creative moment while developing their dance technique and building upon their improvisation skills. This class must be taken with the accompaniment of a ballet class and will also have a showcased routine at our year end recital.

Hip Hop
Exciting, fun and full of style.

This exciting dance style is based on the rhythms and styles of urban hip-hop. Hip Hop is offered as a 1 hour open class for dancers ages 7 and up! Basic rhythm, hip-hop movement, breaking and street dance techniques will make for a fun and intense environment. Running as a full year recreational class, dancers will also be taught a routine and have it showcased at our year end recital!

Musical Theatre
A combination of lip-synching, acting and dance.

Musical theatre is theatrical style of dance that combines synching, acting and dance to Broadway acts and songs. This fun and entertaining style of dance focuses on stage and acting exercises, expression and character development, while incorporating these elements into lip-synching and dance choreography. This 1 hour class is open to dancers ages 7 and up and will allow for their 'Broadway Debut' in our year end recital!

Stretch and Strengthen Conditioning
An intense class focusing on strengthening muscles and improving flexibility. 

This class is offered to dancer ages 8 and up. Its focus is on strengthening and stretching the muscles, to improve flexibility and strength in both the upper and lower body. This class incorporates foundations of Pilates and Yoga, as well as intense stretching periods, finishing off with cooling down exercises. This class is mandatory for all competitive dancers however it is recommended for recreational dancers who are serious about improving their strength and flexibility.
